Puppy Discovery / AKC STAR: For puppies 10-20 weeks of age. Puppies experience socialization with other young dogs. Pups will be exposed to many sights, sounds and unusual objects. Owners learn how to mark desired behaviors and how to use food lures. At the end of the class, pups will allow petting/grooming by a person other than the owner. They will also walk on a leash, sit/down on command. Introduction to stay command. Pups will learn to come to owner when called. Instructor(s): Sandi Ling. One hour per week for six weeks. Advanced Puppy: For Puppies that have completed the Puppy Discovery class or are 5 to 6 months of age and are taking their first Obedience class. All skills learned in Puppy Discovery will be learned & practiced with greater distractions. Additional skills such as recalls will be added. Instructor(s): Sandi Ling. Obedience Foundations I: For dogs 6 month and older with no prior training. Dogs will learn sit/stay, down/stay, beginning heeling work and recall skills. Owners will earn how to mark desired behaviors with verbal/toy/food rewards. Owners will also learn how to work with distractions and learn handling skills. Instructors: Sandi Ling. One hour per week for six weeks. Offered Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings. $110.
Obedience Foundations 2 / Canine Good Citizen: Prerequisite - Foundations I or Instructor Permission. Hone skills covered in Obedience Foundations with the addition of Stand (for home & competition), left and right finishes to recall, signals including down-sit-come, long line work. The focus is on the relationship between class exercises and home manners and practice for the Canine Good Citizen Test, which is included in the session. Instructors: Sandi Ling, Sheri Ankuda. Obedience Foundations 3 / Novice Obedience: Prerequisite Obedience I, II or Instructor Permission. Practice the obedience skills needed to move on to competition at the novice level: Heeling, recalls, group sits & downs, front & finishes and more. Also a great class to practice skills learned in Obedience Foundations I & II. One hour per week for six weeks. Offered Saturday mornings. $90.
Performance Foundations: Prerequisites Obedience Foundations 1 & 2 or instructor permission. Dogs and handlers will work on off-leash skills including come to side, start line stays (sit and stay), right and left side "heeling", circles & turns, and general off-leash control. These are bridge skills for obedience, rally & agilty. Instructor(s) TBA. One hour per week for six weeks. $90. Class is not offered every session.
Advanced Workshop & Advanced Workshop I: Prerequisite Obedience I, II and Instructor Permission: Advanced heeling skills, attention work as well as footwork, handling skills and basic rally skills as they relate to obedience are covered and extended in this class. Basic jumping, recalls, target work and retrieving skills are introduced and extended. The class is geared to the individual who wants to do more with their dog as well as those individual teams who want to perfect their skills in the competition ring. Class work is geared to the individual needs of the students and their dogs. Instructor(s) Kathy Crislip. One hour per week for six weeks. Offered Monday evenings and Wednesday mornings. $90. Open/Utility Workshop: Prerequisite Instructor Permission: Focus of the class is to work on and extend the skills needed for AKC, CKC, UKC or equivalent venues open and/or utility skills with a goal of eventually competing. Confident Canine: This class is an intensive 5 week session (first week is orientation without dogs) for dogs that are reactive to other dogs and people. If your dog is uncomfortable around other dogs (lunges, barks, shakes, retreats etc.) this class will help you build confidence in your handling skills and will help your dog become more confident in different environments.
